Penn State DuBois Partners with Local High School

A partnership between Penn State DuBois, the Saint Marys Area School District and Workforce Solutions for North Central Pennsylvania is helping build the workforce of tomorrow for the local metal manufacturing industry by helping students gain die-setting experience.

New MPIF Standard 35-SP Materials Standard Released

The 2024 edition of MPIF Standard 35-SP – Materials Standards for PM Structural Parts has been released. This Standard is a must-have document and provides the design and materials engineer with the latest engineering property data and information available to specify materials for structural parts made using the PM process.

Each user-friendly section of the Standard is clearly distinguished by easy-to-read data tables (Inch-Pound and SI units) and provides explanatory information for each material listed. 
 

Advanced Flaw Detection for Additive Manufacturing

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge, Tennessee, researchers have reportedly improved flaw detection in laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) metal parts through a method that combines post-production inspection of the manufactured part with data gathered from sensors during the build process.

What started as a small, hidden room on the University of Waterloo campus, has now moved into a 15,000-square-foot facility with $25 million worth of state-of-the-art equipment. The new facility will aim to serve as a hub for future metals research as well as be a central location for advanced AM printers and characterization devices.
